Polyclonal Antibody Production FAQ

1) How do I begin a project?
Send your immunogen along with the Polyclonal Request Form (PDF) to our Immunology Department. We can begin your project immediately.

2) Do I have to send the antigen all at one time?
No, the first boost is at day zero, then every boost thereafter will be scheduled in two- to four-week intervals. Your production schedule will indicate when you need to send additional immunogen.

3) What do you suggest if I have had problems with antibody production in rabbits?
If your protein is hightly conserved (common to mammals) or is a plant protein component of rabbit feed, we recommend using chickens. The eggs are collected daily and can be sent as is, or we can IgY purifiy the yolk.

4) Do you offer screen bleeds?
Yes, you may request screen bleeds from animals that you will be using in your project. Screens are recommended for investigators who are using antigens that are expressed in yeast or E.coli or anything that is naturally occurring in the animal.

5) Do you guarantee results?
No, however, you may terminate your project at any time. Usually by the second titer reading (ELISA), you should see good antibody production. If you are not happy at any time with your antibody production results, you may terminate the project and only be charged for the services that have been rendered up to that point.

6) How do I terminate the project?
At the end of the protocol you will be notified and asked to indicate your choice of exsanguination, euthanization, or continuing the project. We will not end the project without the investigator's authorization. Or, you may call at any time to end the project.
